Personal Project

Ok, so for my personal project, I am planning on having my "students" create a Personal Learning Network using Symbaloo. I have customized my account for myself, and just need to make it more relevant for my students (i.e. more education related). One thing for my PLN that I would like to have is a link to all of the technologies that we talked about here in this class. I have not done the lesson activity yet, but I plan to.

Movie for Project

Here is the URL for my movie project!

This week, I was surprised that this was such an easy project! Now I know how they make their movies. I will surely do this again.

This week

Ok, so for this week, I have not done anything, which is no surprise! I plan to record my lesson tomorrow, so hopefully it will be quiet in my apartment and i will know what to say. I think I will write a script, or something like that. What i am worried about is that I won't be able to take it all in one take, and then I will have to figure out how to put it all together. Oh well!

For this week

I didn't do too well with the assignment this week: I got maybe one page of the storyboard, and I didn't really want to get involved in it yet. I went to my sister's play on Thursday, and I was preparing a lesson for Sunday, so I've been kind of distracted!

This week

Ok, so for this week, I have not been successful in working on my new project for the assignment. I really don't know where to get tape for the recording camera, and I  don't know if I could use my own camera, but I do have the Powerpoint handouts to create a storyboard with, so I need to get working on that. I'm planning on doing a video about hand-hemming, because that is fairly easy, and I love doing the Blind-hem stitch.

More for the class website

Ok, so I just remembered to do this, so I'm glad it is not yet midnight! I'm pretty satisfied with my website: I have 2 sections, was able to put up a widget for Goodreads, and make it look pretty. At least it looks pretty to me! The tutorial's on Rick's website helped a lot! After watching them, it was pretty much smooth sailing. It would be amazing if I could remember all of this for future reference, or I guess I could marry a computer geek! Haha!

Website

Ok, I finally was able to watch the first video on Rick West's website, and it helped immensely. As I was doing this assignment (or more of it, because I'm not finished), I was thinking it would be useful for Relief Society, or a ward website, maybe to put announcements up, recipes, etc. I was able to link both a Google map and a calendar to one of my posts, and also figured out how to upload a picture. Don't ask me to do it again, because I probably wouldn't remember!

Website!!

Yay, I just created this new google site for this assignment, and it will be wonderful soon, just as soon as we learn how to put things up. Here is the URL:  https://sites.google.com/site/cookingfun101/

Thanks!

Week 6 (I think)

Hello again, I looked up the Google sites website (which I've never used before, but I think it would be fun!), but I'm not quite ready to do anything yet because I need to create a rubric. I don't know exactly what I should include in that, but I will do some more research. See you next week!

Internet Safety

For this assignment, I looked at almost all of those websites found on the IP&T web page, and I enjoyed it so much that I went out and I changed almost all of my passwords that are out there in cyberspace. My favorite item of internet safety that I looked/listened to was the podcast by the man who had lots of kids. He had some really good insights, like texting his children whenever they took their attention away from him. Anyway, after that, I was able to tell my brother about what I had found. Some highlights: We need to safeguard our children from the 3 risks of connected technology, which are Inappropriate Contact, Content, and Conduct. Also, we need to keep current with technology, keep communicating with our children, and keep checking their Internet activity.

More copyright

Ok, don't laugh at me, but I posted this thing twice! Oh well. It is an instructional video about how to use a ruler properly. It seems to me that this is a copyrighted work, used by the owner, and published by the owner. Unlike my other video, this person seems to be following copyright laws. He even lists himself as the presenter.

Copyright on YouTube

Here is my first youtube video (the one about slumdog millionaire) on my blog. I found it on YouTube, and it was published by someone who credited CNN with creating it, and that was a good thing, I suppose. It looks like the copyright was infringed, because the person who posted the video did not change anything about the video. He just posted it up to his account, and left it like that.

screenshot for google reader

Here is my google reader site, a screenshot of it. It will be up once I take a picture of it!

More stuff for Week 4

Hello again, so I was able to get on to this website and load it to the blog roll. Finally! Hopefully I will be able to keep up later on in the semester! Like I said earlier, for my google reader, it is harder to pare down what I want than what I don't want!
Ok, here is my gospel stuff: I went to a great Regional Conference on the 12th, and I learned a lot. There were a couple of things that really stood out to me, and I will share them with you. Julie B. Beck spoke, and said that she was worried about young mothers who neglect their children to spend hours on the computer. I totally agree with that! She quoted a great scripture from 3 Nephi 20 that talked about how the LORD can do all things. President Packer said a lot of amazing things, but the main point of this talk that he wanted us to remember was that no matter how much we want to give up on a certain individual, we cannot. He related a story to us about how he was a seminary teacher, and that he was having a difficult time trying to help this one young man who was disruptive in class. One of the brethren who was over the seminary program came to talk to him in a meeting or something like that, and Elder Packer asked him "When can I give up with him? When will I reach the breaking point with him?". And then his superior changed his whole perspective and said this : "What if he was your son?" That hit me really hard, because I had decided to sort of write off at least one of my relatives (not particularly close), and this made me realize that I could not give up on that person. I think that this really relates to teaching, because we are all going to have a student who is like that, and we will wonder when we will be able to give up on that person, and the answer is, never!

Google reader

Hey, I was able to figure out how to use google reader, at least superficially. I don't really know fully what I have gotten into, because just now I was not able to find out how to post another blog on this thing, but I'll figure it out eventually. I feel guilty because I haven't gotten onto my sisters' blogs. I am just not tech-savvy! Well, the hard thing about a google reader for me is getting too many blogs to follow! There are just too many fun topics people are blogging about. Til next time!

Yay!

Well, this is my first blog post ever! Woo-hoo! Let's see if I can keep this up.
